Friends have paid tribute to veteran actor Edward Woodward, known for his roles in The Wicker Man and The Equalizer, who died.The 79-year-old passed away in hospital on Monday, he had been suffering from various illnesses, including pneumonia.
His Callan co-star Anthony Valentine said: "He was always marvellous to work with, not only was he a fine actor but he had this quality that made him special."There are quite a few fine actors around but anything Ted did, he did it in such a way that nobody else would have done it the same. He had this wonderful air of danger about him as a performer," he added.
Valentine finished his tribute by saying: "He was a great guy as well as a great actor."
Woodward rose to fame in the 1960s and early 1970s in Callan, the television spy series. He also starred in the cult film The Wicker Man, and in the 1980s he gained international attention in the hit US TV series The Equalizer.He recently joined EastEnders for a short stint as Tommy Clifford, whose character drew out details of Patrick Trueman's past.
